ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wayne Pletcher grew up in southeastern Ohio, and worked as a clerk in the Justice Department during the turbulent 1960s. After graduating college in Ohio, he went on to earn advanced MS and PhD degrees in chemistry at the University of Michigan. Much of his early research refuted popularly accepted standards and rules about common, synthetic organic chemistry reactions. He was hired by the 3M Company, initially working at the laboratory bench where he developed new and patented materials for industry, later becoming technical director of several of 3M s businesses. Some of his work there required a top secret clearance from the US Government. For several years following this time, he was CEO of Minnesota Technology, Inc. (now Enterprise Minnesota), a non-profit consulting firm.

Wayne became an adjunct professor at the U of Minnesota Institute of Technology, specifically within the Technological Leadership Institute.

In addition to a technical PhD dissertation, Wayne has written articles and presentations for major scientific journals and audiences, a chapter for a book on adhesive technology, six US patents and their foreign counterparts, 20+ editorials for Minnesota Technology Magazine and course content for graduate level classes in the management of technology and intellectual property management.

Wayne and his wife Carol, who holds a biochemistry PhD, started Pletcher, Inc., an innovation and business development consulting company, of which Ms. Pletcher is currently president. The Pletchers are parents to two sons and proud grandparents of a grandson. This is Wayne s first novel.
